THANK YOU!

Welcome! So you've always wondered what I think about, what my observations on life are, and what I find important, which is why you're here! Or maybe not...

Oh, well...I'm just glad you're here, no matter what the reason may be. This is where I share about what's going on in my life, thoughts and observations, interesting links, and generally meandering rambling. And sometimes, even though I'm a political neophyte I even venture into the world of politics. If you'd like to comment on anything I say, feel free to click on the comments link at the end of each blog entry and comment away.

Attack of the Killer Mouse!!! EEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!

AAAAAAAUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

I heard my cat Jasper meowing outside, and he sounded like he might not have been feeling well, so I stupidly opened the door and let him inside without looking closely.

I glanced down at him and noticed something in his mouth, and as I realized it was a mouse, he dropped it at my feet! (Yeah, I screamed ) The poor mouse panicked and ran under a cabinet, and I frantically looked around for something with which to block the openings at the bottom. I grabbed a paper bag and stuffed it into one opening, then grabbed a shirt out of a laundry basket and stuffed it into the opening at the front. Jasper watched the opening at the other side. This standoff went on for almost 20 minutes. I spent the whole time praying and begging God to let me catch the mouse and get it outside tonight.

Finally the mouse ran out and I caught it in a butterfly net. I thought I had it bagged (Ha!) but then it jumped out of the butterfly net and ran under the couch! Sooo...I went into the back of the house, stuffed rags under the doors between the computer room and living room, and the kitchen and hallway so the mouse couldn't get into the bedrooms or computer room, and waited to see what would happen. What happened? Nothing

When I went back out there to see if Jasper was doing anything, he was just laying on the living room floor looking towards the couch every now and again, but wasn't paying that much attention to it I decided to try a new tactic, and I opened the front door and propped open the screen door. I thought Jasper would stay inside and stay focused on catching the mouse, but noooooooo.... ...he got up, stretched, then strolled outside into the darkness of the front yard, leaving me alone in the house with the mouse!!!

In desperation, I grabbed a broom and began beating the house, hoping that would scare the mouse and he'd run out the front door. No such luck I finally pulled the cushions and pillows off the couch and moved it, and saw the mouse run back under the couch! I moved the couch again, and the mouse ran back under it, so I had the bright idea of tilting the couch onto its front side, and herding the mouse out the front door that way. Did it work? Sheesh...of course not! It ran towards me so I screamed and jumped back, and now I don't know where it is...do you think I'm gonna be able to sleep well tonight? LOL! Most likely I'll be ok, but you should see my living room and dining room.

They look like a tornado went through them...the couch is on its side, cushions are piled on top of it, the dining room table is shoved in a corner, the shelving unit is in the middle of the dining room floor...my roommate got a good laugh when she walked in the door and saw the mess! LOL!

So now I'm here at my computer, blogging this important event for posterity I hope you enjoy it...alarming as it was at first, it's become great fodder for storytelling!

Is there anything more boring than a Wednesday? It's the middle of the week, 2 days from Friday, and it's just kinda there...bleah! (well, yeah, there is, but for today this will have to do :))

It's lunchtime at work, and I have half an hour to kill, so I thought I'd ramble here :D (I'll add graphical smileys tonight when I get home)

How do I while my days away at work? Well, I'm the supervisor of a proofreading group at a title company, and I spend my time inputting data to produce charts showing how much each proofer's been proofing, how much work we're doing as a dept, and stuff like that. I answer questions, get answers for questions I can't answer, return errors to the typing supervisor for correction, proofread...basically, whatever I need to do.

Yeah, it's kinda boring at times, but what helps pass the time is listening to the radio. I begin in the mornings with KTKZ, and local talk radio host Eric Hogue. At 9am, I switch the dial to 1320am, which plays "the music of your life" (Wink Martindale's site is a great reference for the type of music played on that station), which is music from the 40s and other mellow stuff. I've found that to be a better alternative than Dennis Prager and Bill O'Reilly, both of whom I like, but because their topics can be controversial, tend to get me too tense. At noon I move to 650am to listen to Dr. Laura, then at 3pm it's time for my favorite talk radio host of all time, Hugh Hewitt :D

I used to be a big Rush Limbaugh fan, and while I do still like Rush, I very much prefer Hugh's style. If you're looking for a great center right Republican program that offers excellent political insight, a fun sense of humor, enjoyable guests that cover the spectrum of political beliefs, a regular introduction/education on Shakespeare, poetry, and a weekly top ten movie list, then this is the man to listen to :D His site is also an excellent resource with some of the best blogs in the nation listed.

Well, lunch is nearly over, so I'll get this published and get back to work!

What a weekend! Lots of stuff went on, and it wore me out. Here's a synopsis, hopefully brief

On Saturday I was up early, getting together some laundry to do at my mom's house, and getting my stuff together for an overnight stay also at my mom's house. I was planning to visit my sister for most of the day, and our father and stepmom were going to be there for a visit and to see the new baby.

I headed out around 9:15 and made it to Woodland (with a stop at the grocery store to buy some sodas) by 10am. I got to spend some time with my neices and nephews (Jenice/15, Ariel/3 and Eli/3 weeks) before my dad and stepmom showed up. Laura was at work for some training, and didn't make it home until about 11:15 or so. We all visited for awhile, then our dad and stepmom left around 12:30.

I hung out at Laura's house until about 6:15. We had a late lunch, watched a movie (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days) and visited. It was nice :)

I went to the grocery store again on my way to my mom and stepdad's house to buy the rest of the ingredients for the dinner I planned to fix on Sunday as my birthday gift to her. The menu I'd planned was:

Vegetable tray
Chinese Rice Salad
Teriyaki Pork Shish Kebabs
Ice Tea
Lemon Cheesecake Squares with Vanilla Ice Cream

So I got to my mom and stepdad's around 7:30, unloaded my car and began doing my laundry (I have a stacked apartment sized washer/dryer...the dryer's been broken for a long, long time, and the washer broke a couple of months ago, so I've been going to laundromats to do my laundry).

My stepdad went to bed early because he planned to wake up at 3am to watch the British Open, so I visited with my mom for a couple of hours, then she went to bed. I stayed up awhile, going online to check email and catch up in CW forums, then I finally went to bed after my second load of laundry was done

I got up around 8am on Sunday, and my dad was watching the British Open. I watched the last part of it with him, and saw Ben Curtis make history My stepdad was pretty thrilled by that (ok, he's not a cheerleader, but you get the idea Then we caught the last hour of Bill Cosby's Himself, which had us laughing so hard we nearly cried

I began getting lunch together, and had fun skewering the meat, pineapple and vegetables. I put the vegetables on their own skewers because I knew they cooked at a different rate from the meat, and marinated them in Yoshida's Gourmet Sauce. The pork and pineapple had been marinating in Mallard's Teriyaki all night. I've never made shish kebabs before, so this was an adventure!

They turned out soooooo good! I had to barbecue them outside in 100°+ heat, but it was worth it. The chinese rice salad was a hit as well My mom and stepdad raved over the shish kebabs, and I was glad they really enjoyed the meal

I stayed longer than I'd originally planned, but it was nice. We watched a video called Lighten Up featuring a Christian comedian, Ken Davis. Finally, it was time for me to head home.

The drive between my house and my parent's place is so nice. I enjoy I-5 between Dunnigan and Sacramento...it's absolutely beautiful to see the yellow hills with oak trees dotting them, and then to drive over the rice fields where you can smell the dirt, the water and the growing plants. I also love the drive over the river and seeing the airport and Sacramento in the distance...this is such a beautiful part of the state, and it's kinda like a secret

I stayed home from work yesterday and relaxed...I wasn't feeling well when I woke up, which may have been due to the heat and being outside so long the day before...dunno, but I felt much better after sleeping in really late and doing nothing all day.

Tomorrow after work I meet with the new singles pastor at my church! I'm really looking forward to it and to getting involved again. I miss having a busy social life with single friends, and hope that this works out well for that.

This weekend I go get my eyes checked and will finally get new glasses after only having this pair for probably 6 years. My sister will be helping me pick out new frames because she thinks my current ones are too big and way out of fashion...she's right! But it's hard to pick out frames without lenses when you're as nearsighted as I am, so I'm glad for the help

Be sure to check out one of my favorite blogs...Hugh Hewitt's. He's the best!
