THANK YOU!

Welcome! So you've always wondered what I think about, what my observations on life are, and what I find important, which is why you're here! Or maybe not...

Oh, well...I'm just glad you're here, no matter what the reason may be. This is where I share about what's going on in my life, thoughts and observations, interesting links, and generally meandering rambling. And sometimes, even though I'm a political neophyte I even venture into the world of politics. If you'd like to comment on anything I say, feel free to click on the comments link at the end of each blog entry and comment away.

Font used on this site is Angelina. If you read this blog regularly, please consider downloading the font so that you get the full experience and I feel like my hard work redesigning the blog has been rewarded.

Personality Test
Crown Ministries offers a Personality ID test that's interesting.

I took the test and came out as an encourager. The description?

General Description
As an Encourager, you are very relationship oriented and respond naturally to the needs of others. You want to be seen as an excellent listener who can respond to the challenge of helping others in practical ways, including solving personal problems.

Typical Areas of Strength
Encouragers, like you, are typically energetic, friendly, encouraging, patient, understanding, loyal, steady, dependable, and are willing to listen to the needs of others.

Typical Areas of Struggle
You often shy away from conflict and may avoid making difficult people decisions, rather than hurt the feelings of others.

Your Preferred Activities
Because you cooperate well with others, you function best with access to people who need assistance, encouragement, development.

Your Communication Style
You communicate through carefully chosen words, gestures, body language, facial expressions, and listening skills to communicate your concern.
Seems pretty accurate, but not all-encompassing. It's a good general guideline to who I am, though :)

Interesting!

Big fun is just around the corner I'm hoping to be able to make it to the California State Fair at least once this year. It's always a fun place to be! Lots of yummy fair food - cinnamon rolls, funnel cakes with strawberries and whipped cream, ostrich burgers, teriyaki chicken and beef, fresh-squeezed lemonade, deep-fried zucchini, onions and mushrooms, roasted corn, corn dogs, deep fried Oreos, Snicker bars and Twinkies...the list goes on!

Add to that the exhibitions, the vendor displays, the free concerts, the livestock, the petting zoo and the horse events at the Calvacade arena, and you have one of the most anticipated and fun events of the year

The California State Fair is also the official 'end of summer' event to me, and as soon as its over I begin anticipating trips to Apple Hill (Yep, I know I've mentioned Apple Hill a lot in recent blog entries Can you tell I love to go there??? )

I love enjoying where I am right now, but I also love to enjoy the anticipation of getting here. That anticipation contributes to the enjoyment of the actual event I think that's why Fridays are my favorite day of the week.

I have a Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers page-a-day calendar on my desk. Right now it's still on August 11th. I've never tried to keep the calendar on the current date because I don't like all the photos. Who wants to look at Gollum all day? I sure don't! So I look through the calendar for the next appealing photo and leave it there for a few days. The photo for August 11th is Eomer in armor including his helmet, standing next to his horse. It's a very nice photo to look at I think the next date I'll have up will be the 20th (Aragorn and Arwen) or the 21st/22nd (Haldir). I also avoid dates with orcs or other assorted ugly things

It's a wonderful feeling having things in my house organized and generally uncluttered. It's not spotless (and never will be!), but it wouldn't be an embarrassment if someone showed up unexpectedly. Well, except for my computer room! I need to get that cleaned out and am going to start on it this weekend. I'm going to go through all my books again and cull them out, offering the culled ones on the Sacramento Valley Freecycler's list. If they don't get claimed, it's to recycling for them. I want to reduce my collection by 50%. Most of the books I have are non-Christian romances, and I've been losing interest in many of those. Besides, I want more room for my Christian books

The big event I'm waiting on is neighborhood cleanup, when the City of Sacramento goes around neighborhoods and picks up anything you put out on the curb. It's a great way to get rid of junk, and I have a lot to get rid of. I hope it's soon! It was in August last year, so I'm hoping it's the same this year. I was reading on the Sacramento Valley Freecycler's list that the city might go to appointments, one per address per year. That works for me as well. I just hope neighborhood cleanup is soon!

I still have a desk that I bought at the Salvation Army Thrift Store for $12.50 that I need to repaint and get into the house. I'm just stuck on what color to paint it. I'll have to apply myself to figuring that out soon so I can get it done and inside before it gets cooler at night. Maybe I'll just paint it brown. Brown is safe and easy.

Looking for a fun site? Visit the Dialectizer, where you can translate webpages (such as this), emails, message board posts and more into Redneck, Jive, Cockney, Elmer Fudd, Swedish Chef, Moron, Pig Latin, or Hacker!

My kind of reality TV
I'm not much into reality TV shows, and the top 3 networks as well as some of the satellite networks are filled with them. Most are raunchy, tasteless, crude, vulgar and voyeuristic, but there's one outstanding exception...

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. This has become one of my favorite shows, and without fail I cry at the end of every episode. Tonight's was no exception. Hearing Leanne Rimes sing "Amazing Grace" brought me to tears, even more so when emotion overtook her.

This is simply one of the most amazing shows on TV today. A family in need is chosen by the EM: Home Edition team, sent on a paid vacation for a week (Disneyland, Disneyworld, NYC) while Ty and crew demolish their home and recreate it with their needs and dreams in mind.

You gotta watch this show!

Midday Ponderings
I have to learn to let go and let God do His work. Sometimes I want to cling to what I think I need out of fear that I'll lose it or that it's not God's will for me, and when I do that I stifle the very thing He has planned and end up losing it.

I recall reading somewhere that what I place into God's hands is safely kept, but what I hang onto with my hands is easily lost. I need to learn the practice of keeping God's gifts to me in an open hand so that He can work out His will in my life and the lives of those around me. By doing that I'll be at peace in Him, and will gain contentment in all that He does.

Clinging tightly comes out of fear, and fear hinders our walk with God. Clinging tightly also shows a lack of faith and trust in God and His goodness.

It's difficult learning to hold onto people and things with an open hand. The risk of loss seems higher and I feel fated to be left with nothing. But what do I really have when I cling? Burdens, obligations, a sense of being trapped...not only for myself but for those I'm clinging to, and by doing that I end up with nothing at all, not even the peace and satisfaction of knowing I was in God's will.

And so I glimpse a little more of the paradox of God. Cling to something and lose it...let it go and gain God's best, whatever that may be. And along with that best I gain the peace that passes understanding and the deepset, solid joy that comes from obedience.

"The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." - Job 1:21

"Obedience makes the heart open towards God."

And now to head back to work for the rest of the afternoon :)

It's been a relaxing weekend. On Saturday I was up early and at the laundromat, getting my bedding washed. Later in the day my mom came by and dropped off about 20 brown grocery bags full of stuff, ranging from christian fiction and non-fiction, cookbooks, sewing books, landscaping and gardening books, bags of used gift wrap, ribbons, tissue, gift bags, old Christmas ornaments, candles, and more.

20 bags. I've been working on cleaning my house and getting rid of junk, so this stuff presented a new challenge. I'm thankful for this group, which enabled me to get rid of almost all of it within one day :)

I don't know why, but today dragged on and on and on. It was long and kinda boring.

I'm still bored
