Deep Thoughts
Tonight I'm watching Chariots of Fire, which was just released on DVD a few weeks ago in a special editon. Awesome movie! Eric Liddell was a very intense and dedicated man of God.
"I believe that God made me for a purpose - for China - but He also made me fast, and when I run I feel His pleasure. To give it up would be to hold Him in contempt. It's not just fun. To win is to honor Him."
God uses the natural talents He bestowed upon us to glorify Himself and to draw others to Him if we allow Him to use us.
It's also interesting to see the contrasting character of Harold Abrahams and his aim to win no matter what. God honored Eric's faithfulness to Him, while Harold relied solely upon himself and thus was left the loser not only in the races but in the things that have eternal value.
This quote from CS Lewis says it better than I ever could:
Look for yourself and you will find in the long run only hatred, loneliness, despair, rage, ruin and decay. But look for Christ and you will find Him, and with Him everything else thrown in.
Matthew 6:33:
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.
