StumbleUpon Fun
I have Firefox as my browser, and one of the best extensions is StumbleUpon. What is StumbleUpon?
StumbleUpon is a network of people and pages. It is a free tool which helps you browse, review and share webpages while meeting new people.
It's a fun feature, and well worth having and enjoying!
Every so often I'm going to share a few of my Stumbleupon discoveries...here are a couple from today's meanderings:
Happily Ever After: What Makes a Relationship Work? From that link:
A popular conclusion to fairy tales is the phrase "And they lived happily ever after." But does happily ever after really exist? Let's get the stars out of our eyes. If you are lucky enough to have found someone to love and who loves you back, you should know that this thing called love is a lot of work. We all have a tendency to take things for granted and to fall back into old habits and love is no exception. We have all stumbled across the following "secrets" to a long-lasting relationship at one time or another, but it is important to be reminded of them just the same. Are you using the following principles in your relationship?

Peace, patience, self-control...
The sermon in church this morning focused on Galations 5:22-23:
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Pastor Dennis asked us to think of 3 we needed to focus upon more than the others, and the three that came to mind for me were peace, patience and self-control.
Lately work has been extremely stressful for me...I've been at the point of tears a few times, and I no longer find any joy in being at the office. Rather, it's become a time to endure, and my patience is as thin as the skin of an onion. If there was no end in sight I'd be seriously considering looking for a new job, but I'm thankful that I have someone I'm training to do my job and that I have the assurance that I'll be placed in a new position at the office at the beginning of May. Motivation to get my backup trained in the next two weeks, that's for sure!
Daily Strength for Daily Needs is a devotional that was originally published in 1884 and is still a timeless collection of inspiration. Today's devotion spoke volumes to me:
Blessed is the man that maketh the Lord his trust. ~ Ps. xl. 4
That we may lead a quiet and peaceable life. ~ 1 Tim. ii. 2
Just to let thy Father do
What He will;
Just to know that He is true,
And be still;
Just to trust Him, this is all!
Then the day will surely be
Peaceful, whatsoe'er befall,
Bright and blessed, calm and free.
~ F. R. Havergal ~
Every morning compose your soul for a tranquil day, and all through it be careful often to recall your resolution, and bring yourself back to it, so to say. If something discomposes you, do not be upset, or troubled; but having discovered the fact, humble yourself gently before God, and try to bring your mind into a quiet attitude. Say to yourself, "Well, I have made a false step; now I must go more carefully and watchfully." Do this each time, however frequently you fall. When you are at peace use it profitably, making constant acts of meekness, and seeking to be calm even in the most trifling things. Above all, do not be discouraged; be patient; wait; strive to attain a calm, gentle spirit.
~ St. Francis De Sales
As you can see, all of the devotion for today is good, but it's the last paragraph that spoke to me the most.
Peace...
Patience...
Self-control...
Lord, thank You for being my refuge and my strength. Thank You for bringing me through many difficult and stressful times. Remind me that You are my peace, and that You are able to carry me through this time of stress. Help me to be calm and peaceful, to be a witness of Your power and not my weakness. Amen.
