Then He said, "Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord." And
behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the
mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not
in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the
earthquake; and after the earthquake, a fire, but the Lord was not in the
fire; and after the fire, a still small voice.
~ 1 Kings 19:11-12
So often, we look for God to speak to us in big ways - a burning bush, a loud
voice with a clap of thunder, a finger pointing the direction clearly. We
expect Him to grab us and shake us to get our attention, or at the very least,
to see a billboard sign with everything clearly written out in detail for us.
But God, in His wisdom, speaks to us in whispers, and we learn to listen
closely for His voice. The still small voice we so easily miss when we are
filled with panic or worry, and don't take the time to quiet ourselves in
prayer and ask Him for direction. The cares and worries of life entangle us
so easily, and we fight and struggle without a moment's peace.
Right now, in the middle of your struggles with the cares of life - stop.
Stop struggling, and get away to a quiet place where you can sit and listen
for that still small voice. God promised that He would never leave us or
forsake us, and His guidance is available to us when we ask. Find time to
spend alone with God, and read His word. Pray and ask Him to help you,
knowing that as His child, He will be there for you. The problems may still
be there when you get back, but now you'll have Him to carry you through to
the other side of them - for they do end.
Lord, thank You for being there for me when I struggle with life. Help me to
learn to listen for your voice, and to trust You to carry me through whatever
I may face. I am Your child, and You will never leave me or forsake me - I
belong to You forever :)
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
