For this reason we also, from the day we heard of it, have not ceased to pray
and make special request for you, asking that you may be filled with the full
(deep and clear) knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom (in
comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God) and in understanding
and discernment of spiritual things - that you may walk (live and conduct
yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and desiring
to please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily
growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of God (with fuller, deeper and
clearer insight, acquaintance, and recognition).
~ Colossians 1:9-10 (Amplified Bible)
Paul's letter to the Colossians included the prayer above - a prayer that
fellow believers would be filled with the full knowledge of God's will in all
spiritual wisdom, and that we would also be filled with understanding and
discernment of spiritual things. This would result in us living our lives in
a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every
good work, and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of God.
How can we do this? By choosing each day to follow Him, to spend time with
Him, and to surrender to His will for our lives. You might not have a 'big
picture' of God's will for you, but by living each day in obedience to Him,
you move further along the path He has prepared for you - sometimes His will
for your life is revealed one step at a time, one day at a time....it's easy
to get impatient with that and want to see the whole plan rather than the next
step. But by learning patience and trusting God with the 'big picture' of
your life, you move into the future in His hands, and live your life in a way
that's pleasing to Him.
The walk of faith is a slow and steady process, at times. We plod along, day
by day, and we think that nothing is happening, But we are steadily growing
in the knowledge of God, and becoming the person He created us to be.
Lord, thank You again for saving me - thank You for lighting my path, one step
at a time. Help me to trust You with the 'big picture' of my life, and to
rest in the knowledge that Your will shall be revealed to me in Your time, in
the fullness of Your plan. Help me to grow in the knowledge and understanding
of You, and in the understanding and discernment of spiritual things. Guide
me, Lord, each day, I pray.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
