The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

~ Genesis 2:18

Do you ever feel lonely? Like no one really cares? God provided us with family and friends to be companions and company, but it can seem like the loneliness never really leaves. Let that loneliness be something constructive in your life.

Loneliness can draw you closer to God, and as you draw closer to Him, you know Him more intimately, and your character grows and develops, conforming to the image of Christ. Yet, so often, we try to fill that loneliness with people and things. But people and things will never really satisfy that ache. A pastor of mine once said that we all have a God-shaped void in our life, and the only thing that will fill it is God. But so many people try out other things, looking for anything BUT God to fill that void.

Only God can ease our loneliness. But while we live here on earth, in our fleshly bodies, that loneliness may never completely go away. It could be a deep-seated longing for our real home, which is in heaven, and the day we go to be with the Lord is the day we finally experience the fullness of the unconditional love and acceptance God has for us.

What can we do with loneliness right now? Turn your eyes upon Jesus, and then reach out to those around you, loving them, helping them, ministering to them. Once we take our focus off ourself, we begin to learn more about God, and we experience the joy that comes from giving and serving. His light shines through our brokenness, so when the world looks at us, they see Jesus.

In Jesus' name,
Amen.
