Morning Glories Daily Devotionals
~ February 16 ~

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

~ Matthew 5:14-16

As christians, we are called to be witnesses of God's love and grace to a world that is lost and dying. It's not always easy to follow Him, though. To stand up and say that you are a christian means that you will get mocked and ridiculed, that people won't take you seriously anymore, or that they'll write you off as a crazy religious right-wing extremist. It takes courage to let God's light shine through you so that those around you are drawn to Him.

God's Spirit in you shines brightly, and is evident in the darkness around us. Living a life that glorifies Him automatically calls you to be different from the world, and that's when we need to turn to Him for strength. It means standing up for what's right when those around you are willing to compromise. It means living your life as if every day was Sunday. It means that the person you are at church is the person you are at home and at work. It means that you do your work for the Lord and not your boss, because God is your authority. And it's something that can only be done through the power of His Holy Spirit, which is available to you for the asking.

Let the light of God shine through you to a world that lies in darkness - follow Him, surrender to Him, let all those who see you see the light of God living in you....and they will be drawn to Him.

Dear Lord, be with me today as I surrender to You yet again. Fill me with Your Spirit, help me to live my life for You in all that I do. Strengthen me to do what is right, Lord, not what is easy. Shine Your light through the cracks in my life so that all who see me know that You live inside me, and that You are the source of all that is good within me. Let the darkness around me be filled with the light of Your love, and let those who see it be drawn to You today.

In Jesus' name,
Amen.
