For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far
more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the
things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things
which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
~ 2 Corinthians 4:17-18
Sometimes all we see around ourselves are trials and struggles, worries and
fear. They cloud our vision and we lose sight of God, and we struggle and
cry out, feeling lost and afraid. Our hearts fail us, and we forget the
truth of God's love for us.
Yes, here on this earth we will suffer afflictions, and they may seem heavy
and overwhelming, with no end in sight. But these afflictions are
temporary, and Jesus has promised to carry those burdens for us, if we
surrender them to Him. These afflictions are also working for us a glory
that we cannot see here on this earth. These afflictions are tools God is
using to conform us to the image of His Son, as He tenderly prunes the sin
out of our lives and grafts us onto the Living Vine. We may never know why
something is happening to us, but we know Who is our Father and we know He
is worthy of our trust.
So set your eyes on the things which are not seen today - the faith that God
gives to sustain us, the knowledge that His Word is true, the assurance that
His love for you is neverending, and the grace that He offers so freely to
those who turn to Him. Here in this world we are surrounded by things that
can stop us from seeing God, if we allow that. Choose today to set your
sights on God, and to follow Him wherever He may lead, trusting Him to carry
you through the afflictions of life. He is good, and He is faithful. And
He loves you!
In Jesus' name,
Amen!!
