Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, "Let us to up at once
and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it." But the men who
had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for
they are stronger than we." And they gave the children of Israel a bad
report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land through which
we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the
people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants,
and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their
sight."
~ Numbers 13:30-33
How often do we look at something God has promised us, and quail in fear at
the seemingly overwhelming obstacles? So often, instead of seeing God's
promises and deliverance in a situation we face, we see the giants of
difficulty, and our faith fails. The giants can take many forms...they can
be past hurts, fears, people, situations....almost anything. And when we
see the giants instead of God, our faith wavers and we face the very real
possibility of not only delaying God's blessing, but losing it because of
our fear.
Moses sent one man from each of the twelve tribes to investigate the
Promised Land, and upon their return, ten of them saw the giants and forgot
who God is and what He had promised them. Only Joshua and Caleb stood firm
in faith, knowing that with God on their side, all things were possible.
The Israelites, upon hearing the bad report of the ten, cried out in fear
and wept, and wanted to choose another leader and return to Egypt, to their
bondage. God had delivered them from slavery, had parted the Red Sea, had
provided manna from heaven and water from a rock - and much, much more, yet
they forgot His delivering power. Joshua and Caleb stood firm in their
faith, and reminded the children of God that the Lord was with them, and He
would bring them into the land and give it to them.
Today, as you face overwhelming fears, doubts or problems, hang on to the
promises of God to deliver you and to bring you into the land He has
promised you. Don't let the giants draw your eyes off the glory of
Christ...choose to see beyond those giants to the saving, delivering power
of our Lord, who is able to do all things. He who has promised is faithful,
and He will complete it!
In Jesus' name,
Amen!!
